A synthesizer for easy Moog sounds. 2 oscillators(no noise), 1 filter, 1 amplifier, 2 envelope generators, 1 low frequency oscillator. They are not enough for complex patching. However, I feel easy with the simple architecture. If you love smooth LFO vibrato and rich bottom, you should try Phatties. More good points. Patch memory with name, 4 knobs surrounded LEDs which enable reading parameter values without twisting knobs. Overload function is added to filter section. It reminds me of output feedback of minimoog. Slim Phatty never makes me down with incomprehensible implementation. That's the reason I respect Dr. Moog. Slim Phatty has no keyboard. The synth makes good sound within wide key range. You may try keyboard as wide as possible for Slim Phatty.

P-00 SLIM NOT SLIM | Playing the big sound up. High key range has good brightness. Although I planned to play high range, I choosed low key range because the category set by manufacturer is "Bright Bass". In my room, subwoofer roars, AV amplifier turn her cooling fan on. Big heavy, expected sound. Please forgive my loose tempo. |
P-01 RIPSAW BASS | One more bass. Up and down the modulation wheel. It may change filter cutoff. |
P-02 UNRULY LEAD | Hey, It's a synth lead. It has legato portamento. Recorded sound has no effect. Maybe I should add some effects. |
P-03 LITTLE LEAD | Afterwards, I found bad tuning. The sound is pretty like piano, and has good presence. It may be from analogue circuit. |
P-04 GRINDMYBASS | I emphasized modulation wheel. Without it, usual useable sound. |
P-05 DEEP AND DARK | The sound pushes the weight. Feeling nice. I made modulation wheel up at later half. Can you recognize? |
P-06 ANALOG DRUM | Drum sound with noise by modulation wheel. |
P-07 MINOR SLIDER | Wheel adds rhythmic modulation. Maybe reverb or delay needed. Can I slim this sound with filter? |
P-08 SYNC SEQ | I do not know how to use this sound. Please forgive bad tuning. |
P-09 BRITE LITE | Good lead. When go lower, good bottom of Moog. |
P-10 SQUAREZ | Subwoofer roaring. LFO is square wave. |
P-11 REZZY PAD | Pad with single note? My superficial understanding. |
P-12 COLD LEAD | LFO is downturn saw. The attack is slow, I like it. |
P-13 DARK SIDE | Give me bottom. |
P-14 ELECTRO SITAR | OK, it's a sitar. |
P-15 SLIPPERY FUNK | It reminds me of TOMITA, great Moog player. The reason may be pulse wave LFO. I should learn modulation more. |
P-16 MELLO EDGE | It is mellow and has edge, isn't it? |
P-17 FATTUS BOTTOM | Word "BOTTOM" makes me playing like this. |
P-18 CLICK BUG | Little Phatty Editor says the category is "Bell". I played bass... Bottom is there. |
P-19 EBBFLOW LEAD | Windy noise is added to lead tone by modulation wheel. Although Key range is wide, there is difference of volume. It needs expression pedal. |
P-20 TRIANGLE SUB | Moog is famous with the bottom. Simple patch has the character, too. |
P-21 PARALLEL MOOD | Low and high tone are separated well. 2nd oscillator can be modulated with triangle wave. |
P-22 BACKWARDSISH | Female voice at back? When adding reverb and delay, it may be TOMITA like sound. |
P-23 DIRTY CHEESE | Lead tone with subtle distortion. It is good to control distortion inside the analogue circuit. Modulation is rooted to WAVE. I do not know how to use legato portamento, sad. |
P-24 BLIPZ SEQ | "Pokopoko" sounds for sequence? I am not sure. I used wide key range. |
P-25 MUSH MUSH | Mushroom? Modulation wheel changes WAVE. It may make some atomoshphere with effects. |
P-26 DISTURBER | I imagined "DO NOT DISTURB". I played irritating sounds. Is it OK? |
P-27 SIMPLE DEEP | The category is "Soft Bass". Usual bass tone, I love the taste. |
P-28 PULSE BASS 1 | Normal bass sound without modulation. However, I added. |
P-29 SPARKLE WAH | Moving lead tone. Triangle vibrato is beautiful. I love. |
P-30 CUSHION BASS | The level is low, I compressed with audio plug-in. Velocity changes the volume. Phatty is a excellent bass machine. Because I have Phatty, I can avoid buying MINITAUR. |
P-31 ELECTROSAW | Category is "Bright Bass". Square modulation to WAVE. LEDs displays basic information always. Good. |
P-32 ARGURU | Guru of Artificial Reality? Corresponds wide key range. 61key is proper. |
P-33 DEADROBOT | Dead robot? really? |
P-34 TRON BASS | Upturn saw modulation to filter. Is "TRON" the film at 1982? |
P-35 GET PLUCKED | LFO wave is square, to osc2 and the rate is high. It makes sound noisy. I imagined electric guitar. Compressed by plugin. |
P-36 STAB ME | I am not sure the sound name. Please do not stab me. |
P-37 HOLD4FIZ | Key down in 4 seconds. Osc2 modulates filter, makes noise. |
P-38 OPEN UP | Osc1 and osc2 are set separately. The category is "Res Lead". |
P-39 SAY WHAA | Triangle modulation to filter. I love. |
P-40 MOOG SOLO | Amazing voice name. I hesitate to play. Modulation is too much for me. |
P-41 DISTURBANCE | It is "Bright Lead", but I played bass. Slow attack sweep reminds me of brass Sforzando. Modulation goes to filter with high late. |
P-42 WAWAWEE | I misunderstood this is a bass. Orthodox bass. |
P-43 DARK BRIGHT | Long release surprised me. Osc1 is 2 feet, osc2 is 16 feet. When I set oscillators aparted, it sounds like organs. This sound is not organ. Well made. |
P-44 FOR HER LEAD | Filter envelope modulates filter, hmm, some hidden functions? This sound reminds me of Keith Emerson. |
P-45 HARUMPH | Triangle modulation to filter is impressive. |
P-46 HELON I | After recording, while listening recorded one, I played same phrase. It's strong. Over dubbing may be effective. |
P-47 TRANSFORMER | Transformer? Transformers? I imagined Takara Tomy's toys. Is it wrong? |
P-48 NICHE | Modulation source is filter envelope, and destination is filter. But "wniwni" sound. I read user's manual, the LED indicator is "filter envelope/sample and hold". Oh! |
P-49 LANSING II | I played monophonic synthesizer with both hands. Fun! |
P-50 STAR WRECK | About fourty years ago, I have watched STAR TREK at neighborhood. |
P-51 KARATE | I have watched "Karate Kids" film. I had Karate lessons when I was 10 years old. I got green belt. |
P-52 MARINE | I imagined fearful the Marines enough to silence a crying child. I added plug-in compressor. |
P-53 MEANT4 DRONEY | Modulation wheel adds sample and hold, maybe. |
P-54 NINTENDO | I could not buy NINTENDO game consoles. The reason is I spend money to DX7, FB-01, QX21 and so on. |
P-55 SUPERPOWERS | Is it superpower?, like telepathy, psychokinesis, and so on. |
P-56 MARINE G II | The Marines 2, is'nt it? |
P-57 TEE PEE FUNK | Usual tone, but has strength. Good. |
P-58 QUIET JACOB | Sweet sound. I found my Kurzweil PC361 with no backlight. I was badly shaken. |
P-59 MIKEY DANCE | Not "Mickey", it's "Mikey". |
P-60 PLAY IN E MOD | I should have played in E. Hmmm, major or minor? |
P-61 FILT REZ KICK | The word "KICK" made me to play in lower key range. That's not right. Around C4 is adequate. This sound i on key. I played with some keys. |
P-62 GRITTY 9TH | Osc2 is up 9th over osc1. Velocity sense is nice. It's like distortion guitar. I love it. |
P-63 DISSONANTTING | I feel good with sound like this. Maybe I am changed duaring Slim Phatty presets recording. |
P-64 Legato Sweep | The strength of Moog synthesizer is distortion and bottom. I found triangle modulation to osc2. It's amazing. I should learn more. |
P-65 HARD TINELEAD | Decayed lead. Modulation wheel opens filter, I guess. |
P-66 DIRT BUBBLES | TOMITA-like sound. |
P-67 MASSIVEPWMMOD | Modulation wheel adds PWM(Pulse Width Modulation). I set the wheel up full. Elegant PWM. Original Minimoog has not PWM capability. Although My minimoog has it with 5G-Mod, I could not understand how to use it. I should have utilize PWM like this. |
P-68 CHEESE GRIT | Triggering changes sound. During recording, I did not find it. Unskillfull. |
P-69 BBQ SYNC | I imagined US BBQ source, too sweet. |
P-70 MOUTHFULL | I imagined talking modulator effector. |
P-71 GHOSTS FADE | I imagined "Ghostbusters", 1984 film. |
P-72 REZZY DUALSAW | Dual saws with rezonant filter. Unique depth of Moog, I feel. |
P-73 TINY THING | Forgive my unstable tempo, please. |
P-74 WAVE GLIDER | I did glide. I feel uneasy to play this sound with no effect. |
P-75 STINGER LEAD | Modulation to filter. LED indicators give information like this. Nice. |
P-76 DIRTY BEATING | Downward saw modulation. Listen loud, please. |
P-77 GAME OVER | The sound reminds me of Yellow Magic Orchestra. I did not play the song for copyright reasons. |
P-78 SLOW SUBSWEEP | The category is "Evolution", hmm. |
P-79 MODVOX BASS | Bass with modulation wheel adding human voice feel. |
P-80 FILTER DROPS | I imagined rain drops. |
P-81 SMOOTH N HIGH | Pretty lead tone. Filter envelope adds clicks. Triangle modulation to pitch is beautiful. |
P-82 PULSEREZSWEEP | The category is "Res Bass". However, I did lead play. Now I tried bass range, it's fascinating. |
P-83 SEKSU BONGO | I do not know how to play this sound. |
P-84 SIR WAH WHA | Modulation wheel makes pitch up to minor 7th. I made "wniwni" tone. |
P-85 SHARP SEQUE | LFO modulates filter to noise. I moved modulation wheel up and down. Unstable tempo shows my low skill. |
P-86 PWM MOD BASTE | I connected a foot switch to master keyboard for sending CC(Control Change)65, portamento. Slim Phatty responds to it. In recording this sound, I did not use portamento. |
P-87 SAW U LEAD | Rare usual lead tone. Wave selector of Phatty is continuous. In this sound, the indicator is under the printed saw mark. Bend, vibrato, portamento is excellent, expected to Moog. |
P-88 SOURPUSS | Another world tone. Upward saw modulation to filter. It's fantastic. No modulation tone is nice, too. |
P-89 PULSE BASS 2 | I should have add no modulation for bass. Interesting. |
P-90 MOD SHARD SEQ | Modulation wheel make pitch to minor 3rd. Untuned play is also fun. |
P-91 SCALAR SYNC | When going to low, more richness. Good character of Moog. |
P-92 BUBBLE BUTT | The category is "Res Bass". I misunderstood. When play as bass, smooth. |
P-93 AGGROSYNCBASS | Modulation indicator says osc2 to osc2. Hidden settings? Fascinating noise. |
P-94 TOUCH GONG | Long release percussion. Rapt. Modulation wheel shakes pitch, fun. |
P-95 SPACE LEAD | I imagined "Captain Ultra", Japanese old TV series. |
P-96 SNAPPY SAW | "PyonPyon" sound. It has some taste like brass wind instruments. |
P-97 SIMPLE TRI | Why not "SIMPLE SAW"? It is a template for making new sound. It is difficult to play basic tone like this. I do not have any confidence. |
P-98 SIMPLE SQUARE | What is the difference bitween square and pulse? Square is 50% and pulse is all ratio? Panel printings of pulse and square look like different amplitude. |
P-99 SIMPLE PULSE | The wave setting is right full. I called the sound like this "Oboe tone". |
CA CALIBRATION | Sound out of 100 preset. For calibration. Osc1 is working, no modulation. This can be saved to preset. |

P-00 Saw1 | Play sawtooth wave without special technique. Yamaha SPX2000 "MONO DELAY" added through P-10. Delay return amount is varying. No delay for bass sound. I chose MONO DELAY for smaller mp3 files. |
P-01 Pulse1 1pole | This is pulse. Slim Phatty has choices of how many poles of low pass filter from 1 to 4. In this sound, I chose 1 pole to reduce Moog sound character. Long ago, I read an interview article with Yamaha engineer. He said both Moog's 4 pole filter and Yamaha's 2 pole filter have own advantage. I agree now. |
P-02 Sample&Hold1 | Modulating pitch with sample and hold. When recording, I twisted filter cutoff, then, added LFO rate, volume pedal down. |
P-03 Noise1 | Maked noise. 2 feet long oscillator 1 modulated by noise. I twisted filter cutoff. Although the noise has glitches sometimes, you cannot find the problem with this recording. |
P-04 FilterOsc1 | Full resonance filter oscillation. Envelope generator can make auto bend. LFO brings vibrato. However, no pitch bend is available. Key follow may not be precise. |
P-05 Fanfare1 | Basic brass wind tone. Saw with envelope moving filter. My play is comical. |
P-06 Strings1 | String simulation. Added vibrato to oscillator 2. In high key range, no alias noise is audible. OK, it's analog. |
P-07 OverloadBass1 | Not worth mentioning bass. A little bit overload. Modulation to filter. |
P-08 SyncMod1 | "1-2 SYNC" button is on. Osc2 pitch is defined by osc1, maybe. Modulation is set to osc2. Interesting vibrato. |
P-09 WaveModVoice1 | PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) sound. Slim Phatty has wave modulation capability to all waveforms. Good sound. |
P-10 FilterOsc&Nz | Filter oscillation with full resonance. I add osc1 with wave modulation by noise. You may be able to chose destination pitch or filter. In this sound pitch bend is valid. |
P-11 Flute1 | I imagined silver western style modern flute. However, my sounds is like wooden flute. Triangle modulation to wave. Osc wave is triangle, too. Filter is 2 pole. Changing pole selection needs cutoff and resonance re-setting. It is time consuming. Searching good waveform is not easy, too. I added Lexicon PCM90 reverb P-10 to P-20. |
P-12 Clarinet1 | I love clarinet made from pulse. Shaking filter adds some noise. |
P-13 Oboe1 | I also love oboe tone. Searching good pulse width wave is not easy. |
P-14 DelayDetune | Slim Phatty has no delayed vibrato. I made delayed detune with envelope to osc2. Gate mode is set to "RESET" for no detune on start point. |
P-15 Spacegun | I tried to make drum sound, and went to this space lasergun. Triangle modulation is to filter. |
P-16 SyncByEG | Oscillator sync is on, and modulate osc2 with envelope genarator. Without modulation wheel, no envelope. The sound is nice, too. |
P-17 Sax1 | Slim Phatty's filter overload helps to make roar of saxphone. I used oscillator sync, too. The phrase is from "Eccentric Zone" composed by Tsutomu Sakae, my mate guitar player. |
P-18 DualLead1 | Osc1 is 16 feet long, Osc2 is 8 feet. Osc2 can be modulated. The phrase is from "Eccentric Zone". |
P-19 UnisonBass1 | Around 1980, I bought Yamaha CS-40M, I made a bass sound like this. Two unisoned oscillators with gentle filter. In Weather Report's live album "8:30", synth bass sounds included in Birdland and Black Market had theese taste. Soft and big sound. Amazing Zawinul. |
P-20 MOOG STAGE II | This is not my tone. Little Phatty Editor initialize patch slot with this program. Nice. I am happy with this sound. |
Though Slim Phatty does not have aftertouch vibrato, it is possible with connecting Kenton Pro Solo MkII's AUX output to SlimPhatty's PITCH CV input. No gate and CV output are used. With this connection, we can use Slim Phatty's LFO to modulate another parameter rather than pitch. It means 2 LFOs, really. With 1st generation of Pro Solo, because Pro Solo does not have a parameter to set aftertouch sensitivity, aftertouch vibrato is too much.

SlimPhatty Saw1 with Aftertouch Vibrato | Enough smooth aftertouch vibrato. |
